Fire Risk Assessment » Our Approach

[Important Note: Our fire risk assessment document relates to life safety issues specifically. It will not relate to building protection requirement issues. However, where building protection and life protection requirements overlap, then qualitative recommendations are normally made.]

Fire Risk Assessment

The methodology will be based firmly upon our expertise, know-how and professional judgement. However, we always respect in house expertise and we always work in close partnership with our client to achieve the desired aim.

Fire Risk Assessment

Our Inspection Methodology

  • The inspection will be of the whole workplace including areas, which are not regularly used and areas outside the main place of work, which may be required for means of escape purposes.
  • With the exception of major projects: one or possibly two inspectors will be employed depending upon the size of the building and the specialised nature of the hazards found.
  • A simple line drawing (fire certificate quality) will be completed to add ease of understanding to the reader of the document and also, act as a first reference when reviewing the document. The drawing will clearly indicate structural fire protection and the means of escape. It will also indicate hazard areas and matters required to reduce fire risk; also all other pertinent and deemed essential matters relating to the document.
  • A digital camera will be used to pinpoint those areas which, we regard as essential information to be given to our clients. Also, photographs taken will be incorporated in the final document, to act as a specific reference for management’s periodic review.
  • In a larger project we will use a digital camcorder to make a recording of areas of particular importance and relevance. This visual aid adds greatly to explaining precise details during meetings with our clients. It also, improves the quality of our work and acts as a reference for overall quality control.

The calibre and quality of work will be carefully vetted by Fire Safety Midlands Limited. Only suitably qualified individuals with Member and Graduate status of the Institution of Fire Engineers will be technically involved in preparing each written document.

Fire Risk Assessment

NOTE: Our methodology may, at our discretion, include aspects of research into National or European legal guidance and local enforcement authority policy and guidance.

Also, research into best current practice with regard to British standards and modern codes of practice. This may sometimes inevitably lengthen the process of issuing a fire risk assessment document. However, we reserve the right to carry out this process under the requirements of good health and safety practice.

Fire Risk Assessment

Preparation of documents

All documents will be carefully prepared and proof read by our employees before acceptance by the client. AN ACCEPTANCE CERTIFICATE MUST BE SIGNED BY OUR CLIENT FOR PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE PURPOSES.

The process will include ensuring that the client understands the relevant legal requirements of the fire regulations and his or her role in compliance with the issued fire risk assessment document.

Fire Safety Midlands Limited will make every effort to ensure that you, our client fully understands the process of regular review required by the regulations.
